Garden City — the raspberry capital of the nation on the shores of the stunning turquoise Bear Lake — sits in the dramatic Bear Lake Valley of northern Utah, where the Cache Valley's agricultural farmland meets the montane wildflower meadows of the Bear River Range and the Wyoming-Utah border country. Bear Lake State Park hosts this early-August festival celebrating the extraordinary honey character of one of Utah's most botanically distinctive regions: the combination of raspberry orchards, alfalfa fields, mountain wildflower meadows, and wild berry thickets creates a honey flow unlike anywhere else in the Intermountain West — aromatic, complex, with the raspberry blossom character and mountain wildflower depth that makes Bear Lake Valley honey among Utah's most prized. The festival features honey competition classes including rare raspberry blossom monofloral honey unique to the Garden City region; wild raspberry picking and honey pairing experiences; educational demonstrations on managing colonies at elevation in the Bear River Range foothills; tastings of Bear Lake Valley varietal honeys alongside the region's famous fresh raspberry milkshakes; artisan honey and beeswax vendors from Rich, Cache, and Bear Lake counties; and sessions from Utah State University Extension on high-altitude colony management and the exceptional honey-producing conditions of the Bear Lake Valley micro-climate.
