The New Mexico Beekeepers Association annual conference in Albuquerque gathers high desert beekeepers from across the Land of Enchantment. Sessions tackle the unique challenges of beekeeping in arid climates—water management, colony insulation from extreme temperature swings, and the extraordinary diversity of desert honey flora including desert willow, chamisa (rabbitbrush), and mesquite. A honey show highlights the distinctive amber and amber-dark honeys of New Mexico's high desert. Vendors offer locally suited equipment and queen genetics adapted to the Southwest.
