The South Dakota Beekeepers Association holds its annual convention in Sioux Falls, drawing commercial producers, hobby beekeepers, and agricultural extension agents from across the Great Plains. Featured presentations cover pollination contracts with sunflower and alfalfa growers, varroa mite management on the northern plains, and honey marketing strategies. South Dakota's prairie landscape yields distinctive sweet clover and alfalfa honeys, which are featured in a honey show with youth and adult categories. Vendors offer equipment, nucs, and packaged bees suited to South Dakota's continental climate.
