Virginia Beach sits at the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic coast, and the Great Dismal Swamp — one of the Southeast's most ecologically diverse honey-producing landscapes. This September festival celebrates the Coastal Plain's unique honey varietals: tupelo from the Dismal Swamp margin, gallberry from the pine flatwoods, and wildflower blends from the barrier island dune systems. Local beekeepers, the Virginia State Beekeepers Association, and Virginia Cooperative Extension agents lead tastings, hive demonstrations, and educational sessions on coastal apiculture and salt-spray pollinator habitat. Culinary highlights include Chesapeake Bay crab with coastal wildflower honey, fish tacos with tupelo drizzle, and artisan mead from Tidewater producers.
