Apimel Mel de Urze

Apimel is a beekeeping and honey company based at Casal de Ermio in Lousã, central Portugal. Its mel de urze is a monofloral heather honey harvested in remote, high-altitude parts of the Serra da Lousã, in Portugal's Central Mountain Range. Apimel's own site sells its honey as raw ('mel cru 100% natural'). The producer describes a very dark amber honey with a dense texture and a strong, slightly acidic flavour, a marked aroma and a light astringency that comes from the heather nectar. It is sold in 280g, 500g and 1100g jars through Apimel's online shop.
